Veteran’s Outreach Operation: Making a Memory 2015

Posted on Updated on

Christmas of 2015 we were honored to sponsor three veteran families who would not otherwise be able to provide Christmas for their family.  It was our honor to help them and to see the smiles on the faces of their children.  The Greenery in Waxahachie donated one family a tree that will last for years.  This Holiday season Veterans Outreach partnered with Attitudes and Attire to help two veteran families from their “Boots to Heels” program have a Christmas they will never forget.  Serving those who served no matter the situation.

One of our “Making a Memory” families that we sponsored this past Christmas, came to us from the “Boots to Heels” program out of Dallas.  The family lived in the Fort Worth, is a single mom of two daughters who just moved here from Chicago.  They were very surprised to see that they were receiving Christmas this year.  Thank you to all our generous supporters.

Veterans Outreach Operation: Bountiful Baskets 2015

Posted on Updated on

This year we put together over 75 baskets containing a full Thanksgiving dinner for local Veteran families.  25 additional turkeys were purchased for families came in after we had passed out all the baskets.  A majority of these families got signed up with us during the VA homeless stand-down about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving.  We passed out baskets to families on Tuesday the 24th of November.  What a humbling experience to see the gratitude of these families who would otherwise have had nothing for this holiday meal with their families.  Items in our baskets ranged from a turkey and dressing all the way down to eggs, milk and butter.  An awesome shout out to the Kroger’s on Pipeline Road in Hurst, TX, for helping us get everything together and for donating dinner rolls to go along with everything.  Friends and family came together to volunteer their time to put all these baskets together and without your support we could not have made this happen.  We hope to double our amount of families in 2016 with your help.

Our South Texas Chapter donated 100 Turkeys to the Houston Food bank on our behalf for 2015 as well.

November Stand Downs 2015

Posted on Updated on

November 2015 was busy for the North Texas Chapter.  We sent out 100 hygiene kits to the Dallas VA homeless stand-down on the 11th and those were accepted with gracious hands by many.

Also in mid November we attended the Fort Worth clinic Cow-town stand-down.  We took 100+ hygiene kits and several drawstring bags that were donated to us by our gracious building management.  At this stand-down we also signed up Veterans for our Thanksgiving dinner baskets.

August Stand-Downs 2015

In August of 2015 we sent a big box of hygiene kits and gift cards to the Amarillo VA clinic that was hosting a homeless stand-down later in the month.  This is the testimonial we received from helping at the stand down and VA this past year.

“My name is Bobby Martinez with the Amarillo VA Housing First Program. From all of us here at the VA and from our community partners, we want to tell you all Thank You! We received a call from you before our first Stand Down for our Lubbock clinic. With great surprise and appreciation we received a box full of hygiene kits and Wal-Mart gift cards. This was a blessing to our department and most importantly to our Veterans. During both of our Stand Downs we were able to give out goodie bags that we handed out to everyone who came and inquired about our program. In those goodie bags were your hygiene packs as well as other items we provided. They were a big hit with our Veterans! We received great thanks from all who received your hygiene packs. Not only did your donations help our Stand Downs but we also used them within our program. We have added the leftover hygiene packs to our “Welcome Home” kits. These are given to Veterans who move into their new apartment in order to get them started with daily items they will need. Also, you sent us Wal-Mart gift cards which we used within the program as well. We used those for emergency food if there was a Veteran who ran out or needed some type of emergency groceries. Also, our department gives out queen size mattresses to our clients whom are housed, your contribution helped us to also supply bed sheets with our mattresses, which we had not been able to do before.

We are beyond thankful and appreciative for your support! It was a big surprise to us, but a surprise that was needed. The hygiene packs are still in use today with our “Welcome Home” kits, being a small town it is hard to give them all out… but we are trying! Again, thank you so much from all of us here at the Amarillo VA and especially from our program and our Veterans. We look forward to working with you and maybe meeting you at our next event!

Thank you for your service!”
